
Life-worlds of citizens in contemporary welfare societies are characterized by a variety of frequently contradictory requirements. The denationalization of social spaces is one of these new challenges. We will have to examine which patterns of behavior are adopted by families and households that try to cope with these and other pressures, and also how they react to political events and reform legislation that directly affect their life-worlds. Individual coping practices lead to reactions of public agencies and other institutions, triggering characteristic institutional dynamics.
