Workshop 'Modelling Spatial Interdependencies in Social Sciences and Comparative Politics'

Spatial interdependence is ubiquitous in the social sciences. Globalization, i.e., international economic integration, implies strategic and non-strategic interdependence in national-level policymaking. The policies in one country depend on occurrences in other countries. The main objective of the workshop is to provide an introduction to spatial and spatiotemporal models with an emphasis on social science applications. The participants will learn how to incorporate the interdependence implied by most social scientific theories into their empirical analysis.

In detail, the objectives are: (1) the diagnose of spatial patterns and the discrimination between the multiple sources of spatial correlation-common exposure, interdependence, and selection, (2) the estimation of the structural parameters of spatial and spatiotemporal regression models, and (3) the calculation and presentation of spatial and spatiotemporal effects.
